I'm not sure what folks in Ohio think of as "good ice cream", but this wasn't it. It's definitely middle of the road in terms of ice cream. Also, the place is way over-priced. $5 a person just to go into the corn maze? We waited an hour to get a table in the restaurant after being told it would only take 30 minutes. Then, it was another 45 to get our food. And, the food was nothing to write home about. Don't even think of going to the bathroom right away while you're here, especially if you're a female. The ice cream/trinket store is the only one and it's packed with people.

Good food, not great food. The kids will love it. we go for the milkshakes and ice cream Sundays.

Ive been going to Youngs since I was a little kid and while they have exploded from a single building selling fresh milk and handmade ice cream into a giant family fun complex their ice cream is still amazing. If you find yourself anywhere near the Yellow Springs area stop into Young's you'll be glad you took the time.

Best ice cream around! (and I'm from Graeter's town, Cincinnati! Shakes, sundaes, cones...they've got it! Lines are long on the weekends but move quickly with the controlled chaos of a dozen or more eager order takers behind the counter. The chocolate chip cookie dough will blow your mind. Seriously. They also have cinnamon ice cream as a seasonal flavor...amazing! Try the flavor of the week (buy one scoop get a second scoop free) for a change of pace a a great deal. I got a medium shake and a double scoop waffle cone for six bucks. That's a deal good enough that two can play a round of putt putt (winner buys the ice cream) and treats afterwards for just under $20. Sweet!

What do you a do on a nice spring day when there's not really anything else to do? Go see the baby animals at Young's! It was nice to be able to feed the fat and happy goats, walk around the barn and see the new baby animals and pet the cats around the barn. The animals look happy and well fed and not in any sign of distress. Can't say that I've had their ice cream. It didn't seem that spectacular in appearance to me. We did want to get a quick snack and got a hot dog and a grilled cheese and my stomach was already hurting after I ate the grilled cheese. The gift shop was smaller than I had expected. We purchased some sweet potato bread which was rich, moist, and delicious, as well as a block of cheddar cheese. Shame we didn't look closer because after we got home we realized the cheese was already growing mold!

Best ice cream ever! Food is great, too. If you're worried about the calories, then you can burn them with a round of mini golf, or in the batting range or the volley ball courts. Young's was designed to be a fun place, and it is a truly memorable experience. In the fall, they have a corn maze in the back. Tractor-pulls are also common. Young's also have a petting zoo.

What a place! Ice cream. Shakes. Sundaes. What's not to like? Yum!

This place most reminds me of Fair Oaks Farms in NW Indiana, just to the southeast of Chicago on I-65. Except that I'd say the ice cream is slightly better here, than Fair Oaks, the only thing this place has over Fair Oaks. Other than that, I'm sorry, but I definately prefer Fair Oaks over Young's, otherwise. I just felt it was way too kid-oriented, for my tastes. And honestly, for some reason, as much as I'm aware they do serve regular food here, I cannot remember anything else about here, other than their gift shop area(which seemed similar to the type of things you'll find at any other regular gift store in the country), and the ice cream. But hey, if I ever was in the Springfield/Yellow Springs, OH area again, and craving ice cream, would I stop here again? Probably. I know I would NOT drive out of my way to come here if I was anywhere else but in the immediate vicinity, for sure.

We went for ice cream on an evening in March and the place was packed! For good reason! Lots of choices, very fresh hand dipped ice creams, yogurt, and gelato. They also have fast food style offerings but ice cream is most important in my world. Worth the drive off of i70.

Having grown up in Northern Ohio, I find it hard to beat Toft's Ice Cream, but Young's does a very fine job and has Tof't's beat when it comes to atmosphere and family fun. Young's is constantly having some kind of festival or event that just adds to the great food and outdoor activities. Don't be fooled, it isn't just about ice cream. Young's has delicious "summer fare" including hamburgers and amazing chicken salad. Be weary of their french fries, as they are not that great and remind me of Ore Ida from the frozen food aisle. Young's is a must try, especially on a hot summer night or in the early fall when the trees are starting to change color and pumpkins abound.

I've been here twice now, and I have to say, the ice cream is good, but not worth going out of your way for. I haven't tried any of the other attractions, just the ice cream. The texture and quality is good, but the flavor isn't that great. If you're driving by, it's worth a try though.

In my mind, this place might just be the best thing about living in the Dayton/Beavercreek area. An ice cream parlor, a petting zoo, two mini golf courses, batting cages, driving range, and more. Such a great down-home, family feel to the whole thing. This is a special kind of place that's is perfect for taking your kids, but just as perfect for a first date.

    (5)
  • Christopher B.

This is what heaven is about. Forget about the hoopla with the goats, driving range, mini golf, etc. This is about one thing- ICE CREAM. Any flavor, any combination, any order, it's wonderful. I love my shakes and these are about as good as they get! If you're in the area, don't be a fool and miss out. Besides, it's a nice ride into the country!

Baby goats in spring! Candycane icecream during the holidays is amazing.

  • Marie K.

Thank goodness they carry Schuler's. Their employees are so much nicer, I'll never go to Springfield for a sprinkled doughnut or sugar cookie ever again! Ice cream is awesome as always. Never a bad experience with that. However, they never carry my favorite flavor anymore. It's called TRASH and it's amazing. (PLEASE MAKE SOME THIS SUMMER!) All in all this is a great place to be. A lot of fun for the young and old alike. You can get doughnuts, cookies, ice cream treats or real food. You can putt-putt or visit the stinky goats. The only downside is how crowded they get. They are so popular. I've been going to Young's for almost 20 years and plan on keep coming back!

  • Formicas F.

Went here in college one too many times ( and gained the weight to prove it!) IF you are watching what you eat (ie- trying to be healthy) this is NOT the place to eat. BUT..... If you are looking for the best ice cream in the middle of nowhere, this is the place for you. Their ice cream is excellent and is made from the cows out back - the benefit of having a dairy in the country. You know the milk - hence the ice cream is fresh. You can smell the cows out back though, so I would not want to eat my ice cream outside. It is really great ice cream and it's very rich.

  • Nicholas P.

The ice cream is definitely tempting. Too tempting. This place definitely added to my posterior. However, the great things are the batting cages and driving range. While not completely realistic you can reward yourself on a hot summer day after spending time taking swings in the cages or on the range with an excellent serving of ice cream. Go for the ice cream then find a way to work it all off! if you want some nice summer food you can also grab a hamburger. It's easy and a fun change from the norm... especially, if you live in Yellow Springs!

  • Weymar O.

I live abou five minutes away from here and I can say I sure am thankful! The food at the dairy store is not great but head over next door to the golden jersey and you get good burgers and steaks. Of course the real attraction here is the ice cream and the fun. The ice cream is great and the milkshakes are some of the best in the area. Its often pretty crowded but they know how to deal with it.In addition to that they have batting cages, mini golf, driving ranges, corn maze(seasonal), petting zoo playground and wagon rides all of them very fun although I wish they'd change th mini golf layout as all the courses have remained the same as long as I can remember. Overall if you're drivin through the area on I-70 (exit 52 I think) or any other road around then this is definitely worth a stop

  • Yan K.

Young's has a great ice cream selection and tasty milkshakes. It's definitely above par, though I'm not sure it lives up to the excessive amount of hype it sometimes get. But then again, I'm not a huge ice cream fan. The food's okay too, but the real reason to brave the crowds, the kids, and the craziness of this dairy turned amusement park is for the ice cream. It's worth it.

    (4)
  • Whitney P.

the ice cream is amazing!!!! and there's putt putt, batting cages, a little train ride, goats!? can't get much better

This place has a little something for everyone. Young's is of course a dairy, so it has all of the accouterments that a diary requires and they do tours of all of it. They also have a petting zoo, a miniature golf course, and a ton of other stuff. I recently ate at the restaurant, and it was good homestyle food. There was a party of 11 of us and we received prompt service and everything came out quickly. If you are interested in some down home cooking and a nice family outing this is definitely the place.

    (4)
  • Yvonne W.

This is a GREAT place for families and for cheap, fast food and ice cream, but BE WARNED: on the weekend in the summer, it gets CROWDED and you may have to wait in LONG LINES. Simple easy burgers, breakfast, pastries and homemade ice cream--the latter is the big draw. All really affordable! Lots of seating inside and out, plus goats to feed.

    (4)
  • Caroline M.

I've only been to the ice cream part of Young's and the ice cream is wonderful. They also have gelato, which I have not tried but looks tasty too.

    (4)
  • Katie S.

I love to go to Young's! They have a "fast food" kind of restaurant where you can get burgers and fries kind of fare. But my preference is for the sit down restaurant. They bring applesauce, cole slaw and the BEST sweet potato bread to each table. It is a fun place to take kids too...lots of space to run and they can climb on old tractors and feed animals. And the ice cream is pretty good too! :)

    (5)
  • Jamie S.

This is a great destination for a family outing: ice cream, batting cages, putt-putt golf, petting zoo, tractors for the kids to climb on, etc. The food in Youngs Jersey Dairy is typical fried fare, not a great cullinary experience, but above average for ice cream shack fare (hamburgers, fries, onion rings, etc.) They have good and plentiful Ice Cream selection, but it is not made by the Jersey Dairy, as many people believe. The food in the Golden Jersey Inn is a little better and more along the lines of a Cracker Barrel or something.

    (3)
  • Charles V.

This is a great place for everyone (young & old). Its just an old-fashioned ice-cream / restaurant, with a wonderful farm setting. Kids love this place, petting zoo, feed the goats, climb on old tractors, put put, driving range. This is just plan good old wholesome fun. Get away from the mall and relax.

    (5)
  • John B.

The Wal-Mart of ice cream parlors. Not terrible, but not up to the hype. Pretty good -- not great -- ice cream, with absolutely no atmosphere, unless you like being herded like cattle.

What was going to be lunch with the kids on the way home to Detroit turned into a fun-filled afternoon: Lunch, Petting Zoo, Rides, Corn Maze, Pumpkin Patch, Driving Range, and finally Ice Cream. This place has great ice cream, excellent food, and lots of activities related to the seasons and farming.... It is worth a detour if you are heading by on I-70, I-71, or I-75 on your way to somewhere else. Check out their website to see (1) What is going on, (2) What special ice cream or food is available and (3) any special offers. When we finally get to Wright Patterson AFB museum, we will no doubt stop here again...

    (5)
  • Clint U.

Nothing very fancy about this place. They make extremely good old fashioned ice cream the old way........it's cow in the morning and ice cream at night. You cannot get fresher ice cream. Not worth a special plane flight from NYC or Wash DC....but if you are visiting Dayton or Cincinnati...it is worth a drive into the country to try this.

    (4)
  • Matthew H.

I can't say I can remember the food at Young's, but I the ice cream is unbelievable. This place is worth going out of your way for.

I will give Young's Jersey Dairy 4 stars because the smiles that it gave my little one were priceless. They had a carnival on site the weekend after Memorial Day. It was his first time ever on any amusement park rides. We had thought that he would be frightened, but he took to it like a fish in water. The look of sheer awe, surprise and excitement on his first "airplane" ride is one that I will never forget. It's funny how kids have no concept of money, they just say "Again!" and it's hard not to indulge them. They have a cute gift shop, and a pretty decent fast food restaurant. They serve homemade ice cream and donuts, as well as chicken fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. I had a fish sandwich, and though the wait was long, it was actually very good. They also have a petting zoo where you can purchase oats for a quarter. It's hard for me to stomach the smells of a farm, but it's really a great place to to go if you have kids.

youngsdairy.com Perfect pit stop after a hike in Clifton Gorge or a skate on the rails to trails path. I have never had the food, but I love the ice cream. They've got a petting zoo, too. Don't forget to wash your hands before handling your cone.

I've been going to Young's my whole life and I have only grown to love it more as I've gotten older. The obvious reasons people come here are for the delicious ice cream and to check out some farm animals. But Young's also has really good food. Sometimes I'm craving chicken fingers and french fries with some cheese curds on the side. Not obviously the healthiest food on the planet, but still delicious. They also have baked goods from Schuler's Bakery which is a local bakery in Springfield who makes amazing baked goods. If you are looking for something more fancy than Chicken Fingers, Cheese Curds, and Burgers you can walk across the lot to The Golden Jersey Inn. Which also has really great food. Other awesome things about Young's is that you can do batting cages, driving range, and putt putt at Udders & Putters. All during the summer. During the fall they have Hayrides and a pumpkin patch you can go out with your family and pick your pumpkins out for Halloween. During Christmas you can go out and pick your own christmas tree in their tree lot/field. As far as the animals go, I would go inside the barn to feed the goats in there because all the ones outside are greedy. If you don't open your hand with food they will just try and eat your clothes when you're not looking. Haha. Nice goats are in the barn, greedy jerk goats are outside of the barn. Obviously, Young's is a great place to go if you are in the area and looking for something to do with your family. It's guaranteed fun. Definitely a must stop and see if you're in Yellow Springs.

What a beautiful day to be on the motorcycle & stop @ Young's Jersey Dairy for an unbelievable ice cream!! I highly recommend the seasonal Strawberry Chocolate Swirl. With the drive & the employees are great!!

This is kind of a lowbrow version of "Fair Oaks Farm" in Indiana. I mean that in a good way. They not only have birthing barns here for students, they have putt putt. They also have a fancy restaurant, which I have not visited. I have been the cafeteria style restaurant. They have sandwiches and burgers there, but the star is the fried cheese curds. I'm a pretty big fan. They taste hand breaded and are probably the best that I've ever had. They also have an ice cream parlor in this building. Let me say that they really run with the buckeye theme. If you like peanut butter, this is certainly the place for you. The first time I went here, I had the buckeye sundae, by far the peanut buttery-ist sundae I've ever consumed. It was pretty good. The homemade buckeye was particularly delightful, and I can never get enough reese's pieces. They also have a pretty wide variety of homemade flavors. Key lime pie sounded interesting, but I went with my old standbys--mint chocolate chip and black walnut. Both were solid. I'd definitely stop by again for ice cream and cheese curds.

What visit to Yellow Springs is complete without a visit to Young's Dairy Barn? As a Columbus native, I've been coming here on weekend trips with my family since I was a wee one. The business definitely has grown a lot--Young's now has mini golf, batting cages, slides, petting zoos, pedal wagons, golf, etc. in addition to the ice cream and tractors it has had for years. I came here with a friend this past weekend. We walked in about 6pm on a Saturday and holy cow was it crowded! Despite the crowd, the line went fast, we each got to sample 3-4 flavors, and the ice cream was served very quickly once we ordered. My friend got a scoop of the cow patty ice cream (dark chocolate ice cream with oreos and dark chocolate peices in it) and I got a scoop of the chocolate peanut butter (chocolate ice cream with swirls of frozen pb in it). We also got some fried cheese curds--pieces of cheese, breaded and battered, and then fried to perfection. My ice cream was delicious and so was my friend's...enough said there. The fried cheese curds were also delicious...they were similar to fried mozarella sticks and had a nice garlic-y herb flavor. Young's is definitely worth going to just for its fried American classics and traditional homemade ice cream. My favorite part of visiting Young's was feeding the goats. You could get a huge scoop of goat feed for $0.25 out of one of those candy dispensing machines. As soon as some of the goats saw that you had food, they'd go crazy (Bwaaaah. Baaaah. Bllllaaaahhhhhhh!!!!). My goal was to feed a shy and socially awkward goat (you know the ones standing in the corner being bullied by the cool goats), but this giant pregnant beast pushed the other goats out of the way and was all "THE FOOD IS MINE". I didn't have much of a choice because this preggers-goat was just so darn aggressive, so I gave in and fed it. It seemed happy. Also, it felt really weird when the goat ate the food off of your hand..

A solid 3 on the ice cream and food. Yes, it's ice-cream, made on a farm. I appreciate the local milk. What I don't get is all the artificial ingredients. Looking behind the counter there are visible huge industrial cans of "hot fudge topping" and "peanut butter topping" The cookies and baked goods that go into all the different sundaes don't look at all local. Even the whipped cream is from a can (seriously? we're on a dairy) Do I feel good supporting a local business? Yes. Do I feel good using my dollar to vote for artificial green food coloring in mint chip ice cream or canned "dessert topping" and whipped cream? Nah. We also had the buffalo cheese curds! Which were good, but not mind blowing. I have eaten at the restaurant, it's a simple and affordable menu. I do love the petting farm, and loved it as a child, but my adult palate doesn't detect sophistication in the frozen treats department. Sorry Young's! Still love you!

As most people have said, this is a nice place to take the kids and have fun. There are nice parks to hike at nearby, which is what I did on my way to Youngs. My girlfriend and I took the kids and packed a lunch there. Before we left I ordered hazelnut gellato. They have all kinds of neat events throughout the year like a pumpkin event for the kids.

Young's Is a great place to visit if you're in the Dayton area. There is a lot to do for the kids, and adults will enjoy the laid back atmosphere as well. Putt putt, ice cream, the restaurant, slides, driving range, and batting cages will keep you busy for hours. For $3.50 little kids can ride on tricycles, climb a rock wall, play in a bounce house, and enjoy corn hole all day. The prices are all reasonable and Yellow Springs in enjoyable with a lot of little shops.

If you've followed my reviews at all, you probably know I'm dairy intolerant and still want to go EVERYWHERE. :) Well, I might be crazy but we went to Young's Dairy Farm today and took my parents with us. While I get that I'm a dairy intolerant person going to a dairy farm, "approximately 65 percent of the human population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy" according to Genetics Home Reference. So, take with a grain of salt if you will... BUT, for a place that has "over 100 flavors" of ice cream according to their website, 1 flavor that is dairy free is insane. For comparison, Graeters has 3. The only flavor that was dairy free was a lemon "sorbetto." I got a taste of it and it tasted like a frozen lemonade Kool-Aid. They also have pink guava sorbetto and peach sorbetto, but those aren't dairy free. Other members of my party enjoyed their shakes - strawberry, butterscotch, and pineapple. I sat down and looked at the Young's Dairy Farm brochure....

Young's - I've been here since before they expanded, when it was just a small place for ice cream and to go see the animals. As I've since moved to Columbus, I don't get to come out as much, but anytime I'm visiting Yellow Springs or going hiking, I try to make it a point to stop by. The service is a bunch of kids, but they do a good job, the ice cream is delicious, and it's always a treat.

Young's Jersey Dairy...whoa baby, what an experience. I stopped here on my way back to CLE from Dayton visiting my sister. I'm always saying how I want to go to Yellow Springs and she never gets me there. So this time, while I didn't stop at Yellow Springs, I did pull off the highway and drive my sweet self to Young's for a sweet, cold, creamy, treat. Young's isn't just a Dairy farm. There's a restaurant that appears to sell home-style family meals. There is mini golf, a petting farm, hay rides, and all manner sorts of fun things for families to do. I bet this place is killer in Fall with more Apple / Pumpkin things to do! Young's boasts a red and white decor that kind of reminded me of a carnival (and I'll admit, freaked me out a bit). There were kids crawling all over this place (also freaked me out a bit). Young's has a "fast-food", carnival style food option for those of you who don't feel like hittin' up the restaurant next-door. It looked like hot dogs, corn dogs, french fries, and other fried items. I didn't look too closely because I was there for the ice cream! There is a little gift shop too that offers post-cards, and fudge, and other trinket things which is attached to the ice cream / carnival food place. But I digress.... Ice Cream! Holy options of Ice Creams. It is a bit overwhelming and some of the flavors are crazy. The people behind the counter were super nice (surprising considering the mass quantities of people rolling through here and the screaming parents / kids etc.). They even let me try several flavors before deciding on my cone. I opted for a double scoop (I think it was a child's size) and that sucker was HUGE!!!! And CREAMY! This ice cream is soft and creamy. Depending on how you like your ice cream, be prepared. For those of you from the CLE area it was even softer than Mitchell's ice cream. Get your napkins ready and be prepared to lick fast on a hot day. I enjoyed my ice cream, and may make the trip again if I'm on the road that way. It's a good place to take a family for a fun little outing.

Came over with family for some ice cream, putt putt, and tour of the farm. The ice cream was really good. Although they only had one flavor of sugar-free. A good place to stop if you're in the area and want some good ice cream It was pretty crowded and we had a large group but got in and out very quickly. Staff was friendly and reliable.

I got my Christmas tree at Young's this year and I think I got the best tree ever. This bad boy is NICE. Perfect height. Perfect shape. Just a textbook Christmas tree. My brother's offspring hacked it down and dragged it back for me. All I had to do was point at the tree I wanted and before I knew it, the thing was tagged and bagged and I was putting it in the minivan. They have a doohickey that vibrates all the loose needles off before they give you your tree. This has probably been around for a while but it was new to me. Easy treesy. Five gold rings.

Love the ice cream and my kids like going almost anytime of the year. I was happy to see the addition of restrooms near the batting cages and the smaller kids play area!

Their ice cream is awesome, the fried cheese curds are fantastic. The waffle cones are made in house, you can watch them be made! All sorts of flavors of ice cream too...I've never sampled one I didn't like but usually stick with chocolate-chip cookie dough out of habit. You can pet some goats and feed them too for 25 cents, you can look at the big dairy cows that are in the field and pet a few calves, maybe a pig and a duck too. There's putt-putt golf, batting cages, and even a slightly "nicer" restaurant. I cannot vouch for the Golden Jersey Inn, but the ice cream and other food is tasty, fairly priced, and worth the wait in line. Even when the lines are huge they move quickly! You can buy fresh, squeaky cheese curds in various flavors to take home with you and they also have several styles of cheese available. They sell some souvenirs and gift items also (tiny glass lobster $1.99!). At Halloween they have pumpkins and at Christmas you can cut your own tree.

I had the tender pork loin. Melted in my mouth. Taste / aftertaste not my fav but the kitch totally made up for it. I mean who doesn't want to mini golf on a tourist farm in tiny town Ohio?

A nice little place for family fun. We stopped here as a pit stop on a road trip and were pleasantly surprised! There's a lot to do and prices are reasonable. My tip: GET THE FRIED CHEESE CURDS!

    (4)
  • Jenny D.

The ice cream here is good. Usually I like mint chocolate chip ice cream. But the one time I tried it here it tasted like toothpaste and other things. Burger and fries are good. But the strawberry shortcake is the best thing I've tried here. Just make sure you come when there's nothing happening or else you'll be crowded like lobsters in a tank one on top of another.

Pros: yummy ice cream and fun farm/family activities. Cons: Long lines can be worth the wait if you are taken care of when you get to the counter but on both occasions that I visited my order was wrong (forgot the topping, wrong type of cone) as well as my family members orders (wrong flavor ice cream, wrong flavor shake). The good news was that they were very kind and fixed my order when I asked. Overall, It was fun and tasty and I had a great time with family, but if you are taking an order and writing it down on paper and I am paying for it in advance/waiting all that time, then it ought to be correct when it gets to me!

A whole hearted believer in the practice of eating ice cream all year round, I was all for visiting Young's Jersey Dairy on a Saturday evening in January. Well when you pull into a lot this busy you know you've come to the right place for a sweet treat. We ignored the other food offerings (though I'll keep their cheese curds on my radar) and went straight for the ice cream line. They clearly have worked out a system as we quickly moved to the front. But fear not, if you need more time to ponder (or drool) over the flavors, those working were very kind. I got Cow Patty --dark chocolate ice cream with chocolate cookie pieces, chocolate covered toffee pieces and mini chocolate chips--and he got cookie dough which is actually cookie dough flavored ice cream with bits of dough. Both were delicious! Plus the waffle cones were pleasantly sweet which can't be said of many other brands. Five stars. While we enjoyed popping in for the ice cream, the number of people and seemingly unattended children led us to enjoy our scoops in the car rather than the large seating areas.

I've seen a few youtube videos of goats screaming like people, but this is the first time I've ever seen it in real life. I don't really know what to say. Young's is your typical farm/restaurant/mini-golf/ice cream parlor/event space. The Good - Farm full of puns - Amazing Ice cream and cheese - Mini Golf - Feed the goats for 25 cents (comes out of a candy dispenser) The Meh - I was hoping the regular food would be as amazing as the dairy, but it was just "pretty good" (except for dairy based foods like the cheese curds) Anyway, if you're near Yellow Springs this is a place you need to check out.

Young's-- my Mecca. My version of God on earth. My one, true, dairy delight, carnival esc, goat farm, pumpkin patch, corn maze with batting cage car show and driving range extravaganza. And then there are the cheese curds. The most unhealthy thing on planet earth. Either regular or buffalo style, but dear lord you should only eat a handful unless you enjoy a coronary. The rest of the food menu sucks. Plane and simple. Not like the old days. But why does anyone come to Young's? Well, the icecream. And on my scale of icecream from 1-10, it rates at easily a 8.5. Which is extremely good compared to Graeters (6), Jeni's salty Caramel (7.5) and many others. The baseline set from a scoop of homemade vanilla bean I once had at the Tap Room at Pebble Beach California. A resounding 10 with a closest match being Young's strawberry cheesecake icecream. (Which the no longer have. Blueberry cheesecake these days. Its pretty good) Well I've got mini golf to play...

"Farm" hardly any cows and it was literally just a batting cage. A carnival. A "giant" slide and a small goat petting zoo

I've been good ng to Young's since before I can remember. It has always been my favorite ice cream place, and any trip to Young's is a good one! The ice cream is top notch as well as the service. An army of teenagers welcome you and swiftly make mince meat of any line that may form. So if there's a line, worry not! You'll get your dairy confection in no time! Any trip to Young's is not complete until you visit the animals and goats in the barn! Overall it's a fantastic place to bring the kids as well as the grandparents! Truly a gem in the Dayton area!

Family fun and down home cookin' done well! I've frequented Youngs with my family for decades and after all this time, the promise of hiking in Yellow Springs followed by lunch/ice cream at Youngs still resonates with my now teenage/adult children. We enjoy both the lunch staples offered in the cafe...think burgers and fries followed by two scoops. The offerings at the Golden Jersey in lean towards full sit down menu. The list of flavors grows a bit each year. My favorite is definitely the lemon custard. They also make other products sold instore and I find it difficult to leave without purchasing their cheese curds and a loaf of sweet potato bread-neither of which I could even begin to replicate at home. We have a new little one in the family now and I'm sure many more visits will occur!

Vastly overrated! Long lines, food is all frozen and not hot when you get it. Attractions seem more like money traps and its always super crowded! I dont understand the hype. Im sure it was much nicer before they expanded.

we went a couple years ago to get some Ice cream. Saw some guy with a hoodie and sunglasses on trying to be inconspicuous but everyone was pointing, whispering, and getting autographs. Turned out to be all star celebrity comedian Dave Chappelle trying to quietly get his local Dairy fix. Poor Dave.

I had to visit because my friend lives nearby and once he told me it's almost like a mini amusement park whose main draw is ice cream, I knew we were going. We drove through miles of empty rolling hills and suddenly reached this big parking lot that was packed with cars. I was pretty amused how there was a petting zoo and a mini golf course (called "udders and putters" :O) right next door. Inside the ice cream shop, it was ridiculously crowded. We just split a buckeye sundae and it was great, and we sat to people watch and see what people do in central Ohio do on a Friday night -- I had just moved into the area fairly recently. P.S. Apparently Obama visited once. And even Paul Ryan when he was campaigning. Paul Ryan supposedly spent four hours here...see how much fun Young's Jersey Diary can be?

So much fun and things to do! First time as an adult! No memory as a kid although my sister said my grandma brought us here when were young! I loved the corn maze the IceCream and animal petting!

I have been going to Young's Dairy for years. Now that I have kids I take them. We tend to visit more in the Spring and Summer but love attending the Fall Farm Festival. Be prepared to spend 3-4 hours at the Dairy for the full Farm experience. There is certainly plenty to do. My toddlers love feeding the goats, petting the pigs, and taking pictures on the cows and tractors. When possible we like to catch the milking of the cows. Kiddie Coral is always a family favorite too and well worth the money. If you visit in the fall they even offer hay rides. Our family always heads to the Jersey Inn for lunch and to the Dairy for dessert. The ice cream can't be beat!

Yellow Springs, Ohio. The food is good, but a little pricy for what you get. The servers are friendly. But the wait in line is long at times. There is inside and outside seating. It's close to John Bryan State Park, Glen Helen, Clifton Gorge, Historic Clifton Mill and Yellow Springs.

There was so much to do! But as I was stuck with 2 kids by myself and it was supers cold and busy, we decided to just get our pumpkins and go. Will be back for sure!

I love this place!! I was just here the other day with my boyfriend. :) He had never been here before. Well, I come here for the ice cream. ...my boyfriend ordered two scoops of the "Cow Patty" and I ordered a scoop of that, and the cinnamon ice cream. Well, the Cow Patty was way too sweet. Double dark chocolate with brownies bits, cookie bits, and other sweet things mixed in. We were warned. And c'mon, we should have known better. Make sure you taste test the flavors if you're not sure about it... The cinnamon ice cream was AWESOME. Really. Where else can I find cinnamon ice cream?! I am starting to look for it everywhere. We didn't do much here except walk around and watch the putters on the putting green. It's a relaxing place. I also love the cheese curds here. ^.^ My boyfriend didn't share my love, but that's okay. Mmmmm! Come visit this place!!

Stellar ice cream, tons of flavors (including seasonal greats), low prices, generous portions: and that's not even mentioning the hay rides and other fun activities for kids. Young's is quite the local gem

I've only tried the ice cream here but it's amazing, so many flavors to choose from. It's a tad pricier than most ice cream shops but I think it's really worth it occasionally. Sometimes it's really busy and it can be hard to find places to sit. There is a petting zoo for kids and you can pay 10 cents to feed the goats (one bit me once so be careful, lol). The miniature golf course is decent too.

When people visit Dayton I always take them to Young's. At first they think it's nuts to drive 25 minutes for ice cream, when there's a Graeters way closer....and a million other ice cream places. Once they get there, they understand. Great ice cream, cool setting, and the nicest staff ever.

  • A S.

We love it here! The kids always have a wonderful time. The ice cream and food line is always long, but it is also quick and efficient. Absolutely love the batting cages and putt-putt, year around. Picking pumpkins in the fall and the corn maze are favorite things for the kids.

A friend of ours recommended we come here to try their home cooked meals. We thought it was just a small diner. He didn't go into detail what this place was. We pulled in the parking lot and it was very packed! They have a petting zoo, rides/activities for the children, a picnic area, store where they sell cheese, souvenirs, etc, a sit in restaurant, ice cream parlour, and more! There is so much to do and I really enjoyed my time here. Definately a great place to spend time with your family for the day.

Great place to visit with the kids. People kept telling me to go here so I had to. We got to see a pig, cows, ducks and goats. You can feed them for 25 cents too. Then we ate at the restaurant. There's too, we went to the dairy one. The food was ok. I had the grilled chicken salad which had no flavor and chili which also wasn't good. What saved it was the cheese curds, love! My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and fries which were also pretty flavorless. My kids had the chicken nuggets which I think were cow shaped and they really liked them. Then we had ice cream which was just ok. I had the salted caramel which was good my little one didn't eat hers all which says something. Hubby had the vanilla which is a safe choice. There's more to this place, but the kids and I got tired.

Ice cream in the winter! That was the decision I made a couple weeks ago. I'm not from the area, but I can definitely see how this place is a big draw for the locals and for anyone passing through town. I hope to explore some of the other options when the weather warms up, but just did ice cream this time around. I was a bit disappointed, they were out of the flavor I wanted, so I relied on my date to split what she wanted with me. She settled on Snowflake, which tasted an awful lot like Coconut with chocolate chunks in it. It was decent. The ice cream here is definitely of the exceptionally creamy variety, so if you're into that, you might wanna check out Young's!

Love this place! My wife was in Dayton on business and we stumbled upon this gem. Cute, quaint, small town country restaurant and ice cream place. Good country cooking! We had breakfast and were not disappointed. Good portions, great food, and reasonable prices. Service was friendly. Would definitely come back again for breakfast or supper if we're in the area again. If you're in the area you must stop in and support places like this!!

What a fun place to take kids, or if you're feeling like a kid at heart! We took a couple young children to the petting zoo and had a great time! They only have cows and goats, but you can feed and pet them and they are very friendly, eager to eat from your hand. :) The ice cream parlor was packed on a Sunday evening, with lots of families. The ice cream selection is good and the prices are reasonable. There is a small gift shop where you can pick up cheeses, cheese curds, and cheese spreads to take home. The staff is hospitable and they try to keep the place very clean, considering the rapid customer turnover on a weekend evening.

This place is great, the kids love it, I remember coming here as a kid now I get to share the experience with my children, it's a great place for families and you can't beat homemade! I would recommend this place to everyone! This place gets an A+++++++ rating from me! Some of said the prices are bad??? I guess there high prices for high but I lived somewhere else in the city and a normal place would easily be around $10 for a cup of ice cream so these prices are great to me very affordable

I have heard a lot about Young's, and since I was recently in the vicinity, I decided to stop in. This is quite the place! There is a lot going on here, and plenty to do for families, which is clearly something a lot of people take them on, as it was packed! There is the actual restaurant building, where you can get some basic grill food, plus the cheese and ice cream for which they are known. There are a ton of flavors to choose from, and the employees are very well organized. Despite the large crowd, they had everyone moving through quickly. My husband tried the flavor of the week, cinnamon, and quite enjoyed it. I went with the chocolate peanut butter and thought it was good, but not amazing. While we just stopped in for some ice cream after hiking in the area nature preserves and state park, we did notice that there were also a lot of other activities at Young's. There was a petting zoo, batting cages, tractor rides, corn maze, putt putt, and more. I also saw signage indicating that they would be offering pick your own pumpkins coming up soon. Looks like a lot of fun for kids!

Young's Jersey Dairy is a staple of my childhood, and each trip is a nostalgic memory lane visit! This place offers so many great family moments; petting zoos, goat feeding areas, mini golf, batting cages, a driving range, numerous "kodak moments," and that's all without even setting foot inside the main building. The lunch and dinner options are tasty, and not overpriced (which is very nice!) or over-portioned, which is important since you MUST save room for ice cream!!! The biggest reason to visit Young's is the ice cream, hands down. No matter what you're in the mood for, or what you prefer ina sundae, the options are endless just like the flavors they offer. This most recent trip I tried the Key Lime Crunch, which was very tasty, as well as sampling the Black Raspberry and Cookies and Cream of those I went with. You can't go wrong with Young Dairy Ice Cream!!!

I enjoy coming to Young's because it's a totally different atmosphere than most ice cream places I've been to. There is one flavor I really want to try that I haven't had that a friend recently had recommended to me and it was the banana crunch. I like all the other flavors too but this one is on my list for now.

Dairy and ice cream are great. We ate at the restaurant for the last time 2 years ago and the food TOTALLY sucked. It was literally out of a can, dried out, stale, blech. We vowed never to go back to the restaurant, and haven't. Maybe they changed their approach since then, but who wants to be the one to find out?

I don't care what the Packers fans say -- Wisconsin ain't got nuthin' on Ohio's cheese curds. My friends in Dayton and Columbus introduced me to Young's about a year ago, and now I crave it every time I visit my family back east. I mean, I get to eat in a building that looks like a barn, has fresh cheese and has a place next door called "Udders and Putters." How could this not be heaven? Before we're even fully seated, we put in our request for a large appetizer of cheese curds. The plate is overrun with these suckers, and they come with sauce. The curds are breaded (fried? I don't know), and they make that squeak-squeak-squeak sound when you chew them. They are DAMN fine and quite filling -- so filling that we moan a little when the waitress brings out sweet potato brown bread, apple butter, applesauce and cole slaw. We always forget that this bread course is coming, but we're never really angry about it. In fact, we usually end up requesting another loaf because it's all so damn yummy. As a vegetarian, I've got a couple of options. I've ordered the grilled cheese (made with your choice cheese combination) on pretzel bread, and it's pretty tasty. I've also had the veggie burger on a regular bun, and it's ok, if a bit mushy. But what I usually do is make a full meal out of a variety of sides, and I totally get my starch on. The "Allison Will Get Fat One Day" Diet at Young's: * Sweet potato casserole * Mashed potatoes * Seasoned potato chips * Spiced apples * More cheese curds Service can be slow at times even during non-peak hours (which stinks for me, as I'm a water guzzler. Seriously, why can't restaurants just leave carafes of water on the table?), but it's always friendly. I once bought some cheese and some apple butter from the little gift shop where you pay your bill, so yay. I've only had enough room in my tummy once for ice cream at the Young's shop next door, but it was just fine. It didn't give me goosebumps, but it certainly was homemade/farmmade ice cream, and I liked it. Young's is definitely worth my $15 for dinner.

I ordered the calfshake and it was fantastic. It definitely tasted like what I always dreamed a homemade icecream milkshake should taste like. I saw the staff making waffle cones behind the counter and am pretty excited about getting one of those next time.

It's a much better trip home when we come here, even though it is a totally different place than it was 28 years ago when my parents first moved to the area. The cheese selection seemed reduced from "back in the day". You can still get big roll butter, but they must have done away with the raw milk that I loved. Anyway, we came to get ice cream, of course! So many flavors to choose from, we chose: Lemon Coconut Cheesecake, Caramel Praline, and Key lime something... Not a bad flavor in the bunch. So good, as always. My rule is : try the unusual flavors, the ones you wont find anywhere else. Friendly, folksy folks and a fun environment to take the kids (even if I'm the kid and a good 20+years out of high school)

Young's is an unexpected place tucked in the middle of Ohio. It is so much more than just ice-cream. They have mini-golf, food and more! They make the ice cream on the premise so it is fresh and delicious! You can make an afternoon out of a stop at Young's. It features whimsical cow decorations, activities and so much more. They have plenty of parking and seating but they are almost always busy. The line moves quickly and the staff is always friendly. You can sample as many of the flavors as you want, and spring for the waffle cone, it's worth it! Young's is a fun, unique stop!

Much like Jen T. said. Lots of quality ice cream choices (I had the strawberry in a waffle cone). There's also good food here, a gift shop, and a petting zoo nearby. This is a great place to come when the weather is nice and enjoy the entire compound.

Homemade ice cream in a ton of flavors and delicious waffle cones- that's a sufficient reason in my book to stop by and visit the Jersey Dairy. There is a petting zoo that is free and a little play area that costs $3 per kid, however, they need to be under a certain height to go in. Maybe it's just me but the whole idea of eating ice cream outside with all the flies and barn animals made my inner germaphobe come out... The ice cream was really good, I'm just not sold on the outdoor activities, especially for kids 5 and older.

Young's isn't that good. I lived five minutes away before a moved away to college and I don't get it. There are HUGE lines on the weekend for everything. It is a huge YS tourist place. The ice cream is not that great. I live in Columbus now and there is much better ice cream locally here. It is just ok. I would never go to any of the restaurants to eat by choice. Going to hit golf balls is nice sometimes when I am bored at home over the summer. It's ok. Not some place I would go often or ever if I had a choice.

I was just back out at Young's today for my husbands company picnic. We had a great time being able to play both mini golf course. My husband also spent a good amount of time in the batting cages. Seeing as we did not pay for anything today it was great deal. The food the company received was great. There was hot dogs, pulled pork, mac n cheese, pasta salad, baked beans, and all the fixings you would need. I love the pulled pork and mac n cheese the best. The best thing about coming to Young's is the ice cream! The Butter Pecan and Peanut Butter are my two favorite. My husband enjoys the Mint Chocolate Chip, me not so much but to each its own. The only downside I have about Young's is the fact that you have to go through downtown Yellow Springs and if you head out to Young's on a weekend then you hit traffic from the random events happening in Yellow Springs. If you are worried about traffic we have found that if we are out at Young's by 11:30am then it is not so bad.

We had to stop here, with all of the reviews and hype, and it was a good experience overall. Lots and lots of seating, strange little gift shop, wide variety of flavors and creations (a milkshake with a piece of pumpkin pie blended in... what!). The number of digital signs and video screens felt a little out of place in the otherwise "down home" style ice cream super store. I'd definitely go back if I lived closer

Young's rocks. 1. The ice cream and milkshakes are amazing. Don't believe me? Ask the monsterous crowd that's ALWAYS there trying to get a sweet treat. 2. Fall time is super fun. The pumpkin patch is off the chain! There are hay-rides, a corn maze, a super slide, batting cages, putt-putt and a petting zoo. What else could a kid need? 3. There is an awesome Christmas tree patch. 4. There is a fast food restaurant and a sit-down restaurant (The Golden Jersey Inn) that serves traditional/amish down-home cooking.

Great for the kids and parents alike (unless you hate dairy)! I love ice cream. If you do not like dairy products, this place is probably not a good choice for you. Probably any place with the word "dairy" is not a wise pick. Anyhow, Young's Jersey Dairy is a farm with goats, cows, cats (I have seen two), a kid's corrale, miniature golf, a driving range, batting cages, gift shops, ice cream shop, and restaurant. They have special events that take place such as, my personal favorite, the wool gathering festival where they sell wool, have a bunch of animals to pet and see and sell crafts as well as food. There is no admission fees to the events, just fees to participate in activities like riding on the hayrides or picking pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. Their food is so good and cheap! The ice cream is rich/creamy and you definitely need to share it with your family to try all the different flavors. They also serve gelatto with awesome flavors besides the usual tiramisu and such. I recommend hitting their restaurant, the Golden Jersey Inn for breakfast/brunch on the weekends because their french toast is amazing! They have french toast stuffed with bavarian creme and sweet potato bread french toast - the quick bread kind (like pumpkin bread). Their coffee also tastes amazing because of the creamer/milk you get to use straight from their dairy farm. It is fresh and it makes the coffee taste like none other. If you are ever in southwest/central Ohio, it is worth it to stop by in Dave Chappell's hometown and check out Young's Dairy Farm. Maybe the goats and cheese may not seem enticing, but the ice cream and brunch will definitely hit the spot!

We ventured to Young's a couple of weeks ago in an effort to have a special family outing in lieu of a birthday party for our son turning three. Like many preschoolers, he gives two thumbs up to animals, tractors, trains, and dairy products, so this seemed fairly perfect. He did have a fantastic time, as did his big brother. They have a "train" made from what appeared to be oil barrels connected behind a golf cart, and my son would have been happy if he could have ridden that non-stop. At $2/ticket for the kids, that could add up quickly, but we were there for a birthday so we didn't mind too much. I think we had $14 in train tickets, and that would have been $20 if big brother wasn't eating ice cream during three of the rides! (An all-you-can-ride wristband would have been great, but we were told that wasn't an option.) It also would have been more if it hadn't started thundering by the time we were about ready to leave (obviously a metal train is not operating if there is thunder.) Fortunately we got plenty of rides in early! Our kids also enjoyed the kiddie corral, with a bouncy house slide, some riding toys, a big "bowl" full of corn kernels and toys for scooping & hauling, and a small obstacle course. We enjoyed seeing the cows, goats, and chickens, too, although my son was disappointed he couldn't join them on their side of the fence... We decided to go for one more adventure, the corn maze, partially because the birthday boy was super excited to ride in a trailer hauled by a big tractor out to the corn field. It was fun, although muddy since it had rained that morning, and the tractor was waiting to haul us back after we cleaned up our shoes! If it seems like you've been reading up to a "but" it's because you have been. While we did have a very enjoyable time, I did not think the cheese or ice cream was all that great. I shared mint chocolate chip and orange sherbet with the little guy. I wasn't expecting anything special out of the sherbet, of course, but I thought the ice cream would be really amazing. It wasn't. The ice cream seemed a little gummy to me, and I don't think chocolate chips work well because they're too hard and almost stale-tasting when they're frozen. Chocolate shavings or thinner chunks work much better than chips, in my opinion. I was the only one in our group who was disappointed, however, so I have to mention that. I still think my points are valid, but it is possible it was just me! We bought some cheese to take home, and it wasn't all that great either. I liked the hot pepper/pepper jack because the peppers were actual substantial peppers rather than the usual dried flakes found in supermarket versions, which was awesome. But overall, the cheese wasn't anything special in terms of flavor or texture. It was fresh, but not incredible like I had expected. Also, I can't help but mention that I'd be a lot more enthusiastic about the dairy if it was organic and if Young's used local ingredients when in season. How great would it be to enjoy local, fresh, organic black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream, just for an example? (I hope you're listening, Young's.) My three-yr-old has asked to go back to the dairy SEVERAL times over the last couple of weeks, and the first time was actually before we even got home the night of our initial visit! I think that's pretty good evidence that he enjoyed himself. We might go back some time considering we're less than an hour away, but it will be more for the fun family atmosphere than for the food. I think it's great that they have something active for all ages to do, and I wouldn't mind playing mini golf or trying out the batting cages next time with my older son. If you like coupons, check out the website before you go. Also, they have a calendar of events which can be handy, and you can find out which seasonal activities are open. If I was just rating the dairy products, I'd have to give two stars, but the overall experience definitely qualifies a third. Fun family outing!

I have to admit, I have ONLY gone here for the homemade ice cream.... but wow, it's worth the trip. My favorite is the simple: Strawberry --- but it's amazing. Fresh homemade ice cream is awesome on a hot summer day and it's making me want some as I write this review. They have a petting zoo, lots of things for kids to do and a pretty decent menu in the restaurant portion of this place, but I can't be bothered with all that when there is homemade ice cream. The flavors change by the month. Check their web-site for details: youngsdairy.com Here's my list of, I want to try next: Black Raspberry Chocolate Fudge Brownie Caramel Chocolate Toffee Chocolate P-Nut Butter Wooly Wonka -- just sounds fun. :) Peaches & Cream Pumpkin Caramel Cookie Dough Snowflake This will be on my list of stops when I get out to the Yellow Springs Festival in June.

After having dinner, my sister and I decided to get a cone at Young's before parting ways for our respective homes (I in Indy, she in Xenia). Man, what a great decision. I had the sea salty caramel. It was outrageously creamy and decadent. It had just enough of a hit of sea salt to keep me eating an enormous "2 scoop" waffle cone, which was freshly made in house, a nice touch. My sister had the lemon sorbetto, which was decent enough, but wouldn't be my first choice at a dairy. I plan to come back next time I'm in the area. Maybe I'll try the buffalo (style, not animal) cheese curds, I hear they're excellent.

I thought this place would have better ice cream boy was i wrong it tasted like cold grease and smelled strange too. i knew there was something strange when my little one spit out her ice cream and yelled this crap is nasty. We took the ice cream back what rude staff the lady told me there was nothing wrong with the ice cream. she walk off and guy came up and asked what was wrong and i told him the ice cream tasted strange so he offered us a different kind and it tasted the same nasty.

I want to say up front I do enjoy Young's. That being said, it's just too far out in the fields to be a must for everyone. It was roughly ten minutes from a training seminar of mine today, so it would have been foolish of me not to stop by such a ballyhooed establishment. There was nothing wrong with the service; everyone was respectful and helpful. I appreciated that very much. The ice cream was flavorful and satisfying, but a little on the rich side. If you can't stand rich ice cream, then you may want to go with vanilla or a frozen yogurt. It didn't pass my litmus test though, which is a chocolate milkshake. It had a slight grittiness to it and a strange extra flavor in the aftertaste. I'm not sure if that's because it was made from milk straight from a farm or what, but I didn't care for that added bonus at all. The putt-putt, goats, and other side attractions were of no interest to me. If that's your gig though, it might be a good time.

Out family loves this place. Tons for the kids to do. Climbing around on tractors, watching and feeding the animals, petting zoo, mini putt and of course the ice cream. Get's very crowded on the weekends but never had too long of a wait.

Ice cream, petting zoo, corn maze, haunted hay rides, plus a really big slide...what's not to love?

I've been to Young's several times, usually in the summer, and the place is packed! For good reason though. The ice cream is great! It's not fancy, but it's good and fresh from the farm out back. It's the kind of ice cream that's loaded with chunks of chocolate and candy, and once in a while, it's exactly what I want. This trip to Young's, however, was in the winter, and while we did get ice cream (mmm, cow patty), we also ate dinner. It was much less crowded, the petting zoo was closed, and I was okay with that. My husband went to school near here and he's a big fan of the burgers and tater babies that come with cheese sauce for dipping. This time, he joined his vegetarian wife in enjoying a black bean burger, a relatively new menu item. He still got the tater babies on the side, but I got a side salad without cheese. We both thought that the black bean burgers were great! They sort of fall apart as you eat them, but they taste good and the vegetable toppings are fresh and crisp. My salad was also very good. I was expecting cheap iceberg lettuce, but the lettuce was dark green and delicious. So, even if I am going to splurge on ice cream afterward, I'm impressed that Young's has some healthy vegetarian options for dinner, especially since it's in the middle of nowhere. Kudos to them!

If your in or around Yellow Springs, Springfield, Xenia or Dayton, make it point (if you haven't been) to get by Youngs. A great place to take the the family. It's just a great place in general.

We enjoyed Youngs Dairy Farm--we were up visiting from Northern Kentucky, our first time to the area. Luckily, we visited here first, before going into the actual town of Yellow Springs because I got a pretty terrible view of merchants there--having shopped many, many small towns and villages across the nation, this was by far the most unfriendly. The folks at Youngs Dairy Farm were great, but of course, it's difficult to be unhappy around farm animals and brightly colored pumpkins! The ice cream was good but that was all we sampled. Looked like the restaurant gets busy at lunch time, though we had though we'd eat somewhere in town--after our experience, we should have simply eaten at Youngs!

This place is great to have in Greene County when you need something to do on a boring weekend. But you have to be careful when you go because it will get REALLY crowded around lunch and dinner time on saturdays. The driving range is my favorite thing to do there and the ice cream is awesome.

Have I abandoned my wonderful convenience that is UDF? yes my true love of ice creams can be found at a slightly less convenient location to the east, just out side of the town of yellow springs. People may talk about the good food, or the baby goats, or the ducks or all that jazz but come on. Best Ice Cream in Ohio, well pretty much the best ice cream I can find, or ever have found hands down. seriously. This place blows every other joint out of the water. Why ? Creaminess, everything here is so creamy it clearly can't be good for you, but that doesn't matter for 2.49 you can get the most wonderful, sinfully delicious, ooey, gooey creamy ice cream you've ever had. It was soft, but not to soft. I could go on and on, but I would rather you go there and try it for your self. they have tons of seasonal flavors, and I can't wait for pumpkin pie to come out in a a couple of weeks. The perfect treat on a fall day.

What can I say, this is very likely the best ice cream I've had anywhere in the world. My parents used to take me here when I was a kid and now whenever I visit Ohio I make it a point to schedule a bike ride out here for lunch and ice cream. Young's is more like a permanent state fair than a restaurant and ice cream stand. The property is very large with plenty of farm animals and farm equipment for kids and adults alike to enjoy. Everything is very hands on. All the ice cream and dairy is made onsite from the cows you see right there on the property so is as fresh and wholesome as it gets. There are 2 lines inside (and on weekends stretching to the outside), one for food and one for ice cream. The dining area is quite large and there is outside seating as well. Even at the busiest times, I've never had trouble finding somewhere to sit. They are especially busy on weekends but they have speedy service down to a science and things move VERY quickly. Even when the line stretches outside, I've rarely waited longer than 5-10 minutes before I'm at the counter putting in my order to the army of staff they have back there. As far as food goes, I'm partial to just the traditional cheeseburger and fries. I've had the bbq sandwich in the past as well which was good. I tried the fried cheese curds for the first time last week and those were AMAZING! I'll never get fries again with those things as an option. The ice cream goes without saying...that is where they specialize and you really can't make a bad choice. I usually get the double buckeye sundae which is a scoop of peanut butter ice cream and another of chocolate, then drowned in hot fudge, melted peanut butter, and topped with whipped cream. It is decadent gluttony incarnate. If you're anywhere close to Yellow Springs and the greater Dayton area, make it a point to take the drive out here. It is an institution not to be missed.

BABY GOATS!!!!!!!!! ......................................... Uh...what? Is there anything else to say? Ok. Fine. This place ALSO has amazing food (I had a fried chicken salad [yes, I appreciate the futility] with amazing homemade ranch dressing and rolls with honey butter), delicious ice cream, and tons of stuff for my nieces and nephews to do. AND BABY GOATS!!!

Young's has to be my favorite ice cream joint on the planet. Young's is, by far, not just an ice cream place anymore. They have ice cream, a short order grill, batting cages, driving range, mini golf, and a sit-down restaurant called the Golden Jersey Inn. However, I start with the ice cream. My favorite ice cream selection on the menu is the shakes. I thought the bull shake was a big shake (5 scoops of really rich ice cream) until they came out with the 32oz bullshake. The big one finally did me in - I can't finish one without pain. The short order grill is what you would expect of a good short order grill. Decent selection, awesome grub, and short waits. If I'm in a hurry, I don't hesitate to hit up the grill for some food on my way past. If you want a great treat, stop in the attached gift shop and pick up some cheese to take home. I love the cajun cheese curds and the dill cheese curds, personally. If you find yourself within range of Young's, you HAVE to stop in and try it. My car finds its way there anytime I am within 30 miles pretty much. During the summer, Young's is open late, but in the winter they close earlier. Keep that in mind if you're dropping in in January.

This place is possibly the best thing in the Dayton area. Great ice cream, gorgeous cows. Food is just ok - think home style favorites cooked for crowds, but that's clearly not the attraction.
